The Culture of Chongqing
Chongqing is a national city within the country of China and it enjoys the same status as a province because of its size. This city is situated in Southwest China near the Yangtze River and is one of China’s four direct-controlled municipalities. The city has a population that is close to 30 million people and the people who reside in Chongqing are descendents from the ancient Ba state that existed in the region thousands of years ago.
The Ba people are credited with establishing Chongqing around 1100 B.C. after they had gained their freedom from the ruling Shang Dynasty. Chongqing was designated the capital city of the Ba kingdom. Eventually the Ba people were overrun by another Chinese state called the Qin in 316 B.C. During this conflict with the Qin, the people of Ba moved closer to the Yangtze River. Once they arrived they mixed their culture together with the local inhabitants and formed a new culture that is still evolving in modern times. Chongqing was at the center of this culture.
The people of Chongqing communicate in the Mandarin language and they also speak Sichuanese, Xiushan, Chengdu-Chongqing and Minjiang dialects. The city of Chongqing covers an area that is over 82,000 square miles and it offers many cultural activities and attractions for local citizens, tourists and visitors to the municipality.
The vast city of Chongqing has many historical sites and places of interest such as the Chongqing Museum, the Ming Dynasty temple, Nanshan Air Force cemetery and the Red Rock Village Museum. These are but a few of the many historical buildings and sites that offer heritage and cultural understanding of Chongqing’s past.
The city of Chongqing also has many districts that provide shopping, historical exploration, fine dining and entertainment. Many people who live inside of Chongqing are reminded of their rich culture and heritage when they visit these districts. Many modern day services such as banking, laundry and taxi cabs are available to the people of Chongqing.
Many of the people of Chongqing are city dwellers who enjoy activities such as going out to eat, attending plays and concerts, watching sporting events and movies and frequenting bars and night clubs. A city of this incredible size also has hundreds of shopping malls that are loaded with clothing and toy stores and arcades. Festivals and parades are also common within the city. Many residents also enjoy free WIFI internet service and outdoor public parks.
The public transportation system inside of Chongqing is an important part of the city’s culture since so many residents use it for the purpose of travel. They use the transportation system for commuting to work, shopping for goods and visiting friends. People can be seen accessing the internet from their cell phones or texting friends. Many vendors sell goods to the people as they travel to their destinations.
Since there are close to 30 million people who reside inside of Chongqing a lot of these inhabitants live within apartment buildings. Residential housing is also fairly common within Chongqing and the city also has areas that are similar to suburbs. Millions of people have homes situated inside of these smaller regions of the city.
The “hot pot” is a cultural specialty of Chongqing and it is a unique method of dining where the customer can actually cook their own food. Local residents and tourists find this particular cultural trait enjoyable since they can prepare their food to their own unique taste. Buddhism is the primary religion within the city of Chongqing. Buddhism has long been a part of China’s religious tradition and it has also impacted the culture of Chongqing city.
The Communist Party of China is a major political party within the city and it is an important industrial area within the Southwestern region of China. Chongqing is the third largest producer of automobiles within the nation of China. Many people are employed or connected to the transportation industry within this city. Many workers are also employed in agriculture and steel production.
Many of the people in Chongqing are loud and aggressive and they’re also laid back. Mahjong is a popular game that is played by many local residents and the people keep most of their activities centered around their own local areas. Since the city contains so many people there will always be people out on the streets during the night time as well as the day.
